Kirche Bansin

The church in Bansin, also called the Forest Church, stands at the western edge of the village in a pine wood. It was built in 1938–39 to designs by Raimund Ostermaier, copying a lost Swinemünde church. The rectangular brick nave has a whitewashed tower on one side, facing the main path from Bansin village. The church is best known for its organ. Made in 1932 by E. F. Walcker & Cie for a Hamburg school hall, it was moved here in 1939 and restored in 2009 by Christian Scheffler. Below the organ loft is a small winter chapel with a two-rank gallery organ. Three bronze bells were cast in 1938, but two were melted for war use; replacements arrived in 1955. Inside, the east wall with the tower is the main view for visitors. The restored organ and the surviving 1938 bell give the church its character. The quiet woodland setting and simple brick lines create a calm place for reflection.
