Einhornhöhle ("Unicorn Cave")

The Einhornhöhle lies inside the Hohe Wand Nature Park near Dreistetten in Lower Austria. A twenty-minute walk on marked paths leads from the village to the cave’s modern entrance. The natural opening sits higher up and can still be seen from the trail. A small hut marks the start of the artificial gallery that visitors follow first. Inside, the guided route drops into a side tunnel before joining the main corridor.
The tour is short but full of detail. The largest dripstones on the route stand in the hall before the squeeze: stalagmites about a metre high. A calc-sinter curtain and several hanging stalactites appear further along. A niche holds a statue of St Barbara and displays Perlsinter. Bones of cave bears and other animals were found here, with teeth and fragments left in place or shown in cases.
Visitors walk through the gallery and main passages, passing dripstone formations and rock layers that still contain fossils. The route ends where the two tunnels fork, before the narrowest point. Outside, the surrounding woodland of the Hohe Wand Nature Park frames the cave entrance.
