Housedon Hill stands on the edge of the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland, only seven kilometres from the Scottish border. It reaches 268 metres above sea level and has a prominence of 184 metres, making it the northernmost Marilyn in England. The hill lies just outside the Northumberland National Park, with its western side now designated as access land. Previously there was no legal right of access, but this changed under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. The northwestern side is covered in forestry plantations, while the summit offers views towards Scotland.

The hill is recognised as both a Marilyn and a Clem, categories used to classify hills by height and prominence. The simplest route to the top starts from Housedonhaugh on the southwest flank, taking advantage of the new access rights. Walkers can enjoy open moorland and forest paths, with the summit providing a clear vantage point. The contrast between the forested lower slopes and the open summit adds to the hill’s appeal. Its proximity to the border makes it a notable landmark in the region.

Visitors find a mix of managed woodland and open moorland on the approach to the summit. The designated access land allows walkers to reach the top without restriction. From the summit, views stretch across the Cheviot Hills and towards the Scottish border. The forestry plantations on the northwestern side contrast with the open summit, offering varied scenery. The hill’s designation as a Marilyn and Clem adds interest for hillwalkers and geographers. It remains a quiet and less-visited spot, ideal for those seeking solitude.
