Carn Menyn chambered cairn

Carn Menyn Round Cairn stands in the Preseli Hills near Mynachlog-ddu, a few kilometres inland from Newport in Pembrokeshire. It is an oval heap of stones up to 1.5 metres high, measuring roughly thirteen by twelve metres. The north-east end has been flattened, while the south-west side has collapsed into a water channel. A large slab, two point seven by two point three metres and up to zero point six metres thick, rests on the ruined chamber at the north-west. Two low stone arms on the south-west form a forecourt filled with rubble. The site is thought to be a chambered tomb, though its exact form remains uncertain. Nearby are other prehistoric remains: Carn Meini Tomb and the standing stones called Carn Breseb Pointer, Stone River Stone and Carn Menyn Marker. These monuments lie scattered across the same upland landscape, suggesting a wider ritual area. Visitors find a quiet moorland setting with wide views over the surrounding hills. The rough stone mound contrasts with the smooth grassland, and the fallen slabs mark the place where ancient builders once worked. The scattered remains nearby invite exploration of the wider prehistoric landscape.
