Children's Corner

Children's Corner was a small amusement park in Cleveleys, Lancashire. It stood on Cleveleys Promenade from 1961 to 2004. The park opened on land called The Arena. It was first run by the council before Albert Mason Sr. leased it in late 1960. Mason owned nearby Olympia Family Amusements. The park featured rides aimed at young children. The park’s best-known attractions were the Alpine Glide helter skelter and the Monte Carlo Rally classic-car ride. The helter skelter gave fast, twisting descents. The car ride used electronically driven vehicles on a track. Children could pretend to steer the cars. In 2001 a new ride, the Jumping Star, was added. The park closed in 2004 and was later demolished. Today the site holds a concrete seating arena. It marks where the rides once stood. The promenade remains a popular place for visitors. The sea defences now protect the town from coastal erosion. The area no longer has any amusement rides.
