Kneipp-Kuranstalt Bad Mühllacken

Schloss Mühllacken stands in the village of Bad Mühllacken, part of Feldkirchen an der Donau in Upper Austria’s Urfahr-Umgebung district. It began as an aristocratic seat built solely for the spa trade serving noble guests. The estate once included a bathing house and a small chapel, linked to the Bruno spring whose healing water was first recorded in 1364 after a crusader named Bruno recovered there. The property passed through several owners before the Marienschwestern von Karmel in Linz bought it in 1936. The sisters restored the buildings and reopened the spa along Kneipp principles in 1937. During the Second World War the house served as a medical ward for the severely ill, later becoming an old people’s home before the spa reopened in 1948. Today the four-storey main building with its baroque tower and onion dome overlooks a working herb garden. Inside, the Kneipp Traditionshaus offers water treatments and care while the chapel built in 1974 overlooks the grounds. The spring still flows half an hour away, feeding the therapies that have drawn visitors for centuries.
