The Tennkogel is a 2,333-metre peak in the Ankogel range of Salzburg’s Hohe Tauern. It stands on the ridge between the upper Großarltal valley to the east and the Gasteinertal valley to the west, directly above the spa town of Bad Hofgastein. To the north the Schrottwand rises at 2,318 metres, while the Frauenkogel, topped by a summit cross at 2,423 metres, lies to the south-east.
A well-marked high-level trail follows the ridge from the 2,159-metre Schmalzscharte over the Frauenkogel to the Tennkogel. Walkers can start from Bad Hofgastein via the Rastötzenalm at 1,740 metres or from the Großarltal in the east. A southern route also crosses the ridge, joining the main path from the Gamskarkogel at 2,467 metres or from the Großarltal via the Bachalm at 1,536 metres.
The summit offers wide views across the Hohe Tauern and the surrounding valleys. The route passes alpine pastures and rugged limestone crags, with the Gastein valley and its historic spa quarter visible below. On clear days the peaks of the Glockner group appear to the south-west.
