Bennie Museum

The Bennie Museum sits in Bathgate, a town in West Lothian. It occupies a row of traditional cottages on Mansefield Street, built between the 18th and mid-19th centuries. The single-storey buildings were joined into one unit and restored in 1988 for the museum. The museum is run by a local charity and opened in 1989. Its displays cover everyday objects and tools from past centuries, focusing on Bathgate’s history and regional industry. Each display is accompanied by written information about its background. Visitors walk through restored cottages with red-tiled roofs and a narrow slate band above the eaves. The long, low interior rooms hold case after case of local artefacts. The setting remains simple, letting the objects speak for themselves.
