Kronberg

The Kronberg is a 983-metre mountain in the Bavarian Forest, the highest point of a ridge between Bodenmais, Langdorf and Böbrach. It stands in the Regen district, not far from the Czech border. A smaller, lower Kronberg exists near Viechtach, so the name alone is not enough to tell them apart. The summit is rocky and exposed to the wind. Only a few hikers reach the top because nearby Arber and Silberberg draw most visitors. A wooden cross with a summit logbook marks the highest point, alongside two simple benches for rest. The views stretch over the forested hills and, on clear days, to the Alps. Several signed trails climb from the hamlets of Stein, Schöneck, Waldmann and Böhmhof. The Waldbahn railway stops at Böhmhof, making the lower slopes easy to reach. The route through quiet spruce woods rewards walkers with solitude and wide, open views from the bare summit.
