Rheinischer Hof

The Rheinischer Hof stands in Bad Hofgastein, a market town in Salzburg. Built in 1910 by Eduard Lindner as the Kurhaus Habsburg, it originally had two storeys, thirty rooms and a thermal bath. In 1925 an extension added a dining hall and four more rooms. Later it became known as the Rheinischer Hof and in the 21st century served as a girls’ boarding school. The building is listed as a protected monument. Its three-storey main structure rises above a two-storey mansard roof. The design reflects the early 20th-century spa architecture of the region. The interior once housed grand public rooms alongside private chambers for guests. The thermal bath wing formed the heart of the original health resort. Over the decades the building absorbed successive waves of alteration and reuse. Visitors today see a solid stone façade softened by dormer windows under a slate roof. Inside, high ceilings and wide corridors recall the building’s grand beginnings. The mansard storeys contain smaller chambers once used by staff or pupils. The former dining hall survives as a communal space. The surrounding Kurgartenstraße keeps the setting quiet yet central in the spa quarter.
