Nežabec

Nežabec is a mountain peak rising to 1,023 metres in the Vihorlat range, part of the Inner Eastern Carpathians. It stands within the protected Vihorlat Landscape Park in eastern Slovakia, near the border with Ukraine. The summit is covered by dense beech and fir forests that have grown undisturbed for centuries. The slopes are home to rare plants such as yellow foxglove and alpine aster. The area has no ski lifts or cable cars, so it remains quiet even in summer. The mountain is reached by a red-marked hiking trail that starts in the village of Remetské Hámre. The route climbs past Motrogon, a nearby peak with a distinctive rock formation. After crossing the Tri tably pass the path continues over Sninský kameň, a limestone tower that offers wide views. Nežabec itself has no built structures, only a small stone cairn and a wooden summit register box. The trail then descends towards Fedkov and the Strihovské sedlo pass. A visitor finds a wild, forested landscape with few signs of human activity. The air is fresh and carries the scent of resin and damp earth. On clear days the view stretches across the Vihorlat range to the distant Bukovské vrchy. The only sounds are wind in the treetops and the occasional call of a raven. The route is well marked but not crowded, giving a sense of solitude in the mountains.
