Filialkirche Rosenau

The Filialkirche Rosenau is a small Roman Catholic church in Rosenau am Hengstpaß, Upper Austria. It stands on land once used by the Danubius company and belongs to the parish of Windischgarsten. The building is protected as a historic monument. The church was built between 1949 and 1950 after the original chapel was removed during the Second World War. Local woman Maria Rubchich led the initiative, with plans by architect Hans Foschum from Linz. The community provided labour and donations, while the Diocese of Linz and Danubius also contributed funds. Bishop Franz Zauner consecrated the church on 15 August 1950. Inside, a late 18th-century Rococo altar was donated by Schlierbach Abbey, and statues of Saint Anthony of Padua and the Virgin and Child were made in the Grödner Valley. Visitors find a modest but carefully designed interior with a single aisle and small sanctuary. The altar dominates the space with its ornate carvings and gilded details. The statues stand on either side, adding a quiet dignity to the setting. The church sits in a quiet village surrounded by the forested hills of the Hengstpass region.
