Wien Rennweg railway station
The halt at Wien Rennweg sits in the Landstraße district, where the Aspang railway meets the main S-Bahn line. It occupies a sunken site, once the bed of the Wiener Neustädter Canal, now crossed by Rennweg and the Ungargasse. Tram lines O and 71 cross above, while bus 77A ends here. The station’s history begins with a lock in the 1830s, later replaced by a railway halt in 1883. Wartime damage closed the first building in 1945, and a second opened in 1971 before being rebuilt between 2000 and 2002. The latest upgrade added a 160-metre central platform and a shopping, dining and office block overhead. Visitors find a single, wide platform reached by lifts or ramps. Above ground, cafés and shops line the concourse, while below the tracks an underpass lets trains switch tracks. The station is a quiet gateway to the city, yet its platforms hum with trains every few minutes.
