Spielboden

The Spielboden in Dornbirn stands in the former Rhomberg textile factory in the Rohrbach district. It is the largest cultural centre in Vorarlberg, occupying several converted industrial halls. Inside you will find a main hall seating up to six hundred, a smaller cinema, a rehearsal room used for in-house productions, and the Kulturbar ‘Kantine’. The centre is worth visiting because it programmes across music, theatre, dance, literature and film. Each genre has its own curators, most working voluntarily. Regular events include the Profile Jazzfestival, the Tanz ist-Festival, Poetry Slams and documentary film screenings. The organisation also hosts political discussions and children’s theatre. Visitors find a lively foyer, a bar with local drinks, and a cinema with comfortable seating. The main hall hosts big concerts while smaller rooms host workshops and rehearsals. The building itself, with its high ceilings and exposed steelwork, keeps the memory of the old factory alive.
