Anglesey Coastal Path

The Anglesey Coastal Path circles the Isle of Anglesey and Holy Island in North Wales. The 200-kilometre route mostly hugs the shoreline, with two inland stretches near Plas Newydd and Bodorgan Estate. It begins and ends in Holyhead and runs almost entirely within the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The path links existing public rights of way and permissive routes, well marked with signs. Some sections close between mid-September and mid-February, but alternatives exist. The path was created by Menter Môn and the Isle of Anglesey County Council with European Objective 1 funds. It opened in June 2006, led by Rhodri Morgan AM, then First Minister of Wales. The trail forms part of the 1,400-kilometre Wales Coast Path around the whole of Wales. Its logo shows a Sandwich tern, a bird with a large colony at Cemlyn Bay. Walkers pass through varied landscapes, from sandy beaches to rocky headlands. Near Amlwch Port, the Copper Coast circular walk leads inland past Parys Mountain in 22 kilometres. Ynys Llanddwyn offers a short 2.3-kilometre walk over fine sands on a tidal island. The route passes through villages and estates, giving glimpses of local life and history along the way.
