Schloss Tüßling stands on the edge of the market town of Tüßling in Upper Bavaria’s Altötting district. It is a four-wing Renaissance building with an arcaded inner courtyard, surrounded by a moat that recalls its origins as a water castle. Four octagonal corner towers with onion domes rise above the regular façade, which was once decorated with sgraffito murals.

The house was completed in 1583 for Count Johann Veit von Toerring. Later owners added a baroque festival hall and restored the decaying fabric after wartime use as an old people’s home. In the 1990s the present owner financed a full renovation, uncovering original frescoes and reinstating historic colour schemes. The work earned a local culture prize and involved students from a Polish art school.

Inside, visitors find the two-storey arcades of the courtyard, their granite piers on the ground floor and slender Tuscan columns above. The north wing still shelters the 340-square-metre festival hall with Régence stucco and landscape panels. Elsewhere, rooms retain their 18th-century colour schemes and furnishings, offering glimpses of the castle’s changing fortunes across five centuries.
