VS-Schulmuseum
The VS-Schulmuseum stands on the Weinigstraße in Tauberbischofsheim, part of the VS Vereinigte Spezialmöbelfabriken campus. The museum sits beside the company’s canteen and production halls. The firm itself has made specialist furniture since the late 19th century. In 1998 the company opened the school museum to mark its centenary. Its permanent display is titled ‘The Classroom: School Furniture from the Late 19th Century to Today.’ The exhibition traces how school buildings and furniture have changed across the 20th and 21st centuries. It shows desks, chairs and cupboards from Germany and abroad. Historic classroom objects illustrate how teaching spaces evolved. The display also explains ergonomic and cultural shifts behind school design. Innovative school architecture from around the world is featured alongside the furniture. Visitors walk through rooms arranged chronologically. Original school benches and blackboards from different eras stand side by side. Photographs and plans show how classrooms looked in earlier decades. The exhibition highlights how desks became lighter and chairs more adjustable over time. The museum offers a quiet look at everyday learning environments past and present.
