Schloss Troschelhammer

Schloss Troschelhammer stands beside the Haidenaab in the small village of the same name in northern Bavaria. Once a hammer mill powered by the river, it was later rebuilt as a two-storey manor with a mansard roof. The entrance is marked by an oriel window topped with a decorative gable, and the core of the building dates from around 1600. The house was owned by local noble families for centuries, beginning with the Wilds in the 14th century. Later owners included the Zedtwitz family, who turned it into a proper manor, and the Reiß family, who added a glass-bead factory in the 19th century. Each generation left its mark, from baroquely remodelling the façade to adding farm buildings such as a stable and barn. Today the manor remains in private hands and is not open to the public. Its farmyard still shows the long range of 17th- and 18th-century outbuildings, giving a quiet picture of how the place once worked. The river that once drove the hammer now flows past the old walls, linking the building’s industrial past with its later life as a country seat.
