Prague 11

Prague 11 lies in the south-eastern part of the city, eight kilometres from the centre. The district stretches across both sides of the main road to Brno, with Chodov, Opatov and Háje on one side and Roztyly on the other. Most of the area is taken up by Jižní Město, a large panel housing estate built in the late 20th century. Over seventy-seven thousand people live here, connected to the rest of Prague by metro line C. Four smaller districts—Křeslice, Šeberov, Újezd and Prague 11 itself—form the wider administrative area. The contrast between the modern housing blocks and the older villages gives the district its character. Chodov has become a local shopping hub with a large mall and offices. Opatov hosts the O2 Arena, a major venue for concerts and sports events. Háje station is one of the busiest on the metro network, linking residents to the city centre in under twenty minutes. The area also includes parks and sports grounds for football and other activities. Visitors find a mix of urban convenience and local life. The metro runs every few minutes, making it easy to reach the centre or nearby districts. Chodov’s shopping centre draws people from across Prague for its shops and restaurants. In Opatov, the arena hosts major events throughout the year. Quieter streets in Šeberov and Újezd offer a slower pace, with small shops and cafés. The wide cycle paths and bus routes add to the district’s practical layout.
