Nottingham Arts Theatre

Nottingham Arts Theatre stands on George Street in the centre of Nottingham. The building began life as the George Street Particular Baptist Church before becoming a theatre. Inside are two spaces: the main auditorium with 274 seats and a smaller studio theatre with fifty. An educational charity runs the theatre and runs a busy youth theatre company that puts on several shows each year. In 2024 a youth choir was added to the programme. The theatre has hosted well-known performers including members of the Nottingham band Dog Is Dead. It premiered the stage version of Alan Sillitoe’s novel Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. Every year a pantomime is staged, and recent productions have included Shrek The Musical (Junior) and School of Rock. The youth theatre has performed Les Misérables, Our Day Out and RENT: School Edition. A documentary called Panto! followed the 2012 production of Puss in Boots. Visitors find a welcoming theatre with a main stage and a studio space for smaller shows. The auditorium seats are arranged for clear sightlines to the stage. The studio theatre hosts experimental and youth productions. The building’s former church architecture gives the interior a high, light-filled space. Outside, George Street offers cafés and shops within a short walk.
