Brandlhof

The Brandlhof is a 13th-century farmhouse in Radlbrunn, a village within the market town of Ziersdorf in Lower Austria’s Hollabrunn district. Once a manor farm for Lilienfeld Abbey, it has been protected as a listed monument since its days as part of the Stiftungsurkunde of Duke Leopold VI in 1209. The complex was split in the late 15th century, creating the separate Dienstlhof while the Brandlhof continued under the abbey’s steward at Weinzirl near Krems. After General Dampierre’s troops destroyed Radlbrunn in 1620, the damaged farm was sold in 1629 to Conrad Höllrigl and later passed through several owners until Simon Prändl acquired it in 1770 through marriage. His descendants ran the estate for seven generations until the last operators retired in 1994, when the property was handed to Ziersdorf municipality. Today the Brandlhof functions as a cultural and seminar centre run by Kultur.Region.Niederösterreich. The exhibition in the old stables traces the farm’s history and that of the Prändl family, while the former living quarters now serve as a small inn. The pigsty has been converted into a seminar room used mainly for museum-management courses by Niederösterreich’s Museum Management, and in summer the Bühne Weinviertel stages plays there. Above the entrance two stone-framed windows from the 16th century and a Mercy-seat relief from the early 18th century remain visible. The inner courtyard is framed by living and farm buildings topped by a column-supported balcony with a glazed wooden veranda. Visitors walk through the restored courtyard and can step into the exhibition or the inn for local fare. The seminar wing hosts workshops and performances, linking modern culture with the farm’s seven-century past. The surrounding village of Radlbrunn, still owned by Lilienfeld Abbey in the 16th century, offers quiet lanes and views across the flat Weinviertel landscape.
