London Film School

London Film School stands in Covent Garden, a lively part of the City of Westminster. It occupies a converted brewery on Shelton Street, close to the West End’s theatres and Soho’s editing suites. The school also uses a modern building in nearby Parker Street as its main hub. Covent Garden’s streets are filled with film crews and post-production companies. The area’s cinemas and studios have shaped the school since it moved there in 1966. The school is the oldest film school in the UK and trains students from more than forty countries. It offers four postgraduate degrees in partnership with the University of Warwick and the University of Exeter. Its alumni include directors Mike Leigh and Michael Mann, cinematographers Roger Pratt and Tak Fujimoto, and producers like Iain Smith. Recent graduates have won awards at festivals in Venice, Cannes and Sundance. The school is recognised as a world-leading specialist provider by the Office for Students. Inside the historic brewery building, visitors find four shooting stages with lighting grids and a rehearsal studio for workshops. The design studio has drawing boards, model-making tools and a visual reference library. Editing suites run Avid Media Composer, while sound suites use Pro Tools 24HD. Two cinemas seat 110 and 35 people and show both digital and 16mm films. The new Parker Street building houses the main teaching spaces and an independent cinema next door.
