Links Park

Links Park stands in Montrose, a town on Scotland’s east coast in Angus. It is the home ground of Montrose F.C., a club that has played there since 1887. The stadium began on land rented from the ‘Auld Kirk’, with early income coming from circuses and grazing livestock. In 1920 the club raised £150 to buy a stand once used by the Highland Games. A roof was added to the Wellington Street end in the 1960s, and floodlights were installed in 1971 for a match against Stranraer. The ground’s record attendance reached 8,983 for a Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee in March 1973. The stadium was transformed in the 1990s after Bryan Keith took over the club. The old wooden Main Stand was replaced by a cantilevered stand seating 1,258 people. Total investment neared £1 million, with the Football Trust contributing £400,000. Keith bought the ground in 1995 for £500,000 and gave the club a 25-year rent-free lease. GlaxoSmithKline provided £250,000 in 2006 for an all-weather pitch, later replaced in 2015. Montrose Roselea, a local junior club, have shared the ground since the 2018–19 season. Today Links Park holds 4,936 spectators. The seated Main Stand on the South side holds 1,338, while the West Stand terrace can take 1,582 standing fans. Uncovered standing areas remain on the North and East sides. The pitch measures 113 by 70 yards. The stadium’s modern facilities and shared use by two clubs keep it a focus for local football in Angus.
