Parish Church in Münzbach

The Pfarrkirche Münzbach stands at the eastern end of the long market square in the market town of Münzbach in Upper Austria’s Mühlviertel region. Its 42-metre tower rises at the west side, the lower half dating from the Middle Ages with a late-Gothic porch. The church itself is a three-aisled pillared basilica, its nave covered by a barrel vault and its side aisles by cross ribs. The building preserves traces of a late-Gothic rebuild after Hussite raids in the 15th century. Inside, a Louis XVI high altar and tabernacle from 1793–94 flank statues of the patrons Saints Laurentius and Leonhard. Notable fittings include a 1700 chalice, a 1684 monstrance, and paintings by Clemens Beutler and Kremser Schmidt. Behind the church the former Dominican monastery forms a U-shaped complex around a central courtyard entered through an ornate gate. The monastery was founded in 1664 by Joachim Enzmilner after a fire had destroyed much of the town. Its church was consecrated in 1669 and once housed a Baroque organ by Franz Lorenz Richter.
