Antoniuskapelle (Virgen)
The Antoniuskapelle stands at the eastern entrance to Virgen-Dorf in the Virgental valley, Tirol. Built in the 17th century, it forms a protected ensemble with a nearby 15th-century Gothic image pillar. The chapel is one of 24 listed monuments in Virgen and shows early Baroque design without a tower. Inside, the ceiling is a barrel vault with irregular recessed panels. The altar holds a carved figure of Saint Anthony under a canopy, flanked by two monk saints and two reliquary busts. A late 19th-century Sacred Heart figure sits on the mensa, alongside an 18th-century prie-dieu, a built-in alms box, and an early 18th-century wooden Pietà in a glass case. Beside the chapel stands a Gothic tabernacle pillar from the mid-15th century. Its octagonal shaft supports a gabled superstructure with faded frescoes showing the Last Supper, Crucifixion, Death of the Virgin and Saint Sebastian. The steep shingle roof and plain stonework give the site a quiet, unadorned presence.
