Regalmspitze

The Regalmspitze is a 2,253-metre peak in the Kaisergebirge range in Austria’s Northern Limestone Alps. It stands in the eastern part of the mountains, known as the Ostkaiser, east of the Kleines Törl and west of the better-known Ackerlspitze. The subpeak Regalmwand reaches 2,227 metres and lies to the west. Seen from Going in the south, the Ostkaiser forms a striking mountain backdrop that includes the Regalmspitze. The mountain is rarely climbed because of its demanding approach and summit route. Only mountaineers with sure footing, no fear of heights and climbing agility should attempt it. The usual route starts from the south, either from the Gaudeamus Hut or the Ackerl Hut via the Gildensteig climbing path. An alternative comes from the north, from the Griesner Alm in the Kaiserbach valley through the Fritz Pflaum Hut and the Kleines Törl. Near the memorial tablet below the Kleines Törl, the normal route branches off. It crosses steep slopes to a rocky gully, then climbs very steep ground and short steps to the wind gap between the Regalmwand and Regalmspitze. There the route meets its main challenge: a 5-metre vertical wall graded UIAA II. Once past this, the path eases over easy rocks to the summit cross on the Regalmspitze.
