Lattberg Tower

The Lattbergturm stands on the Lattberg near Entrup, a village in Nieheim. The tower rises 24 metres above the hilltop and offers a wide view over the surrounding countryside. It was opened in 2012 and includes a reconstruction of the old Prussian optical telegraph station number 31. The tower is worth the journey because it combines modern design with local history. The telegraph station once carried signals across Prussia in the early 19th century. The village itself has been part of several states since the Middle Ages, from Paderborn-Lippe to Prussia and finally North Rhine-Westphalia. Visitors find a steel tower with an internal staircase and an observation platform. The reconstructed telegraph station stands beside it, showing how messages were sent by light signals. The hilltop site is peaceful, with benches and information boards about the tower’s history. On clear days the view stretches far across the fields and woods of the region.
