Museum für Puppentheaterkultur

The Museum für PuppentheaterKultur stands in Bad Kreuznach, a town in the Rheinland-Pfalz region. It opened in 2005 and occupies 750 square metres. The building combines a permanent exhibition, a workshop, and a theatre space. Regular performances take place on its own stage. Visitors can try out puppet-making and handling at several hands-on stations. The museum grew from the collection of Karl-Heinz Rother, which now belongs to the state. It shows puppets from many countries and periods, especially German 20th-century figures. The displays trace how puppet theatre moved from folk entertainment to an independent art form. Special exhibitions have focused on Astrid Lindgren and the work of Albrecht Roser. Important items include the original Hohnsteiner Kasper, pieces by Carl Schröder, and the complete Fliewatüüt from the TV series Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt. Inside, visitors find figures such as Bernd das Brot, Li-La-Launebär, Spejbl and Hurvínek, Käpt’n Blaubär, Hein Blöd, Robbi and Tobbi, Paschik, and Herr von Bödefeld. The exhibition also highlights contemporary puppet theatre. The workshop area lets guests see how figures are made. The theatre room hosts regular shows, adding live performances to the visit.
