Schloss Stepperg

Schloss Stepperg was an early modern noble residence in Bogenhausen, now part of Munich. It stood on the eastern Isar high bank between the Ismaninger and Montgelas streets. The estate included a manor house and a baroque garden. Archaeologists list it as a protected archaeological monument. Its grounds stretched into the Isar meadows towards Oberföhring.

The site passed through several notable owners over two centuries. In 1640 Georg Schobinger received permission to transfer the name Stepperg to his Bogenhausen house. Later owners included Ventura Terzago, Joseph von Schmöger and Franz Anton Thaller. Maximilian von Montgelas remodelled the house and laid out a park between 1803 and 1805. The Bogenhausen Treaty of 1805 was concluded there.

Today only the Bundesfinanzhof building occupies the former grounds. Remnants of the baroque garden survive in the Herzogpark. The Brunnbach stream once powered a pump for the manor. A ruined villa begun in 1909 stands unfinished on part of the site. The area is now filled with villas and parkland along the Brunnbach.
