Theater in Cronenberg

Theater in Cronenberg stands in a converted 1831 schoolhouse in the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg. The building once housed the Borner School before becoming the home of a community centre that opened in 1986. The theatre began as “Theater in der Borner Schule” before adopting its present name a year later under Ronald F. Stürzebecher, its first artistic director. The theatre’s programme mixes boulevard comedy, satire, small-scale musicals and shows for young audiences with occasional classical works. Four separate stages seat between seventy and ninety-nine people each. More than three hundred performances every year draw around twenty-five thousand visitors, many from nearby towns. Ralf Budde and Stefan Hüfner now run the theatre as managing directors. Since 2008 it has offered theatre courses for all ages. Several well-known figures, including Christoph Maria Herbst and Axel Stein, first appeared on its stages.
