Sector light Dagebüll
The Leitfeuer Dagebüll stands on the north Frisian North Sea coast at Dagebüll. A grey mast about 20 metres high carries the precision sector light at the south-west end of the mole. The mole also holds the terminus of the narrow-gauge railway from Niebüll. Opened in 1988, the light replaced the old Dagebüll lighthouse and now guides vessels into the Dagebüll fairway. The Amrum district office of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Authority in Tönning keeps the equipment running. Its beam splits the horizon into sectors of red, white and green to mark safe and dangerous waters. The red sectors warn ships away from shallow sandbanks while the white sector shows the deep channel. Green sectors mark turning points for vessels approaching the harbour. Two smaller red and green lights on the mast reinforce the colour coding at close range. Visitors walk the mole to stand beside the mast and watch the rotating light sweep across the horizon. On clear days the Wadden Sea stretches flat to the horizon and the island of Föhr appears in the distance. The railway platform beside the mole offers a sheltered spot to wait for the next train back to the mainland.
