Schloss Favorite
Schloss Favorite stands on the edge of Rastatt-Förch in Baden-Württemberg. Built between 1710 and 1730 by Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer, it served as a hunting lodge and pleasure palace for Margravine Sibylla Augusta. After the death of her husband, Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden, she commissioned the small Baroque palace. It lies close to Schloss Rastatt, another residence of the margravine. The building was used only for a few weeks each year during the summer. The palace is famous for its vast collection of Chinese porcelain, black lacquerwork and Schwartz porcelain. It is recognised as the oldest German ‘porcelain palace’ and remains the only one still intact. The interior reflects the margravine’s taste for luxury and exotic goods. Rare pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries fill its rooms. The palace also illustrates the European fascination with East Asian art during the Baroque period. Visitors walk through elegantly furnished chambers where porcelain adorns walls and tables. The small scale of the palace makes each room feel intimate. Outside, the gardens provide a quiet setting with views of the surrounding countryside. The building itself, with its delicate stucco and painted ceilings, shows the finest craftsmanship of the era. A stroll around the grounds reveals why this little palace was cherished by its owner.
