Böseck

Böseck is a mountain in Carinthia, Austria. It stands in the Spittal an der Drau district, 280 kilometres southwest of Vienna. The summit rises 2,854 metres above sea level and 280 metres above the surrounding terrain. At its base the mountain is 2.6 kilometres wide. A lake called Grosser Oschenik See lies close by. The land around Böseck is mostly rugged high country. The nearest town of any size is Bad Gastein, fourteen and a half kilometres to the north. Roughly twenty-nine people live in each square kilometre of the area, so the countryside feels quiet and empty. Grassy slopes cover most of the ground near the peak. Visitors find open meadows and rocky ridges leading up to the summit. The lake nearby adds a stretch of still water to the mountain’s wild setting.
