Canal Cafe Theatre

The Canal Café Theatre is a small fringe venue in Little Venice, London. It sits above the Bridge House pub where Westbourne Terrace Road meets Delamere Terrace. The building stands at the junction of the Grand Union and Regent’s canals. It can be reached from Warwick Avenue, Royal Oak and Paddington stations. The theatre seats sixty people. The theatre began in 1985 as the home of NewsRevue, a satirical sketch show that still performs there. Every year the show transfers to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Other well-known acts have appeared on its stage, including The Mighty Boosh, The League of Gentlemen, Rhod Gilbert, Paul Chowdhry and Shappi Khorsandi. Visitors climb stairs to the theatre above the pub. Inside they find a compact performance space with a small stage and close seating. The room is plain and functional, letting the comedy take centre stage. Outside, the canalside setting offers quiet walks along the towpaths. The area around the Bridge House pub is lively with canal boats and passing walkers.
