The Windtalkopf is a 2,633-metre peak in the Zillertaler Alps, part of the western Hohe Tauern range. It stands near the border between Salzburg and Tirol, with the Graukarkopf to its north-east and the Windbachkarkopf to the south-east, separated by the Breitscharte col at 2,496 metres. The mountain sits within a rugged alpine landscape of steep slopes and sharp ridges.
Climbers reach the summit from either the Richterhütte or the Krimmler Tauernhaus, both popular bases for high routes in the area. The route is unmarked, requiring careful navigation across rocky terrain and through high passes. Heinrich Klier and Walter Klier describe the climb in their Alpenvereinsführer, while the region is mapped on Alpenvereinskarte sheet 35/3.
On the summit, visitors find wide views across the Tauern and Zillertal ranges. The air is thin, the silence deep, and the only movement comes from wind across the rocks. The route rewards those who take the time to find their way through the high country.
