Brennerin

The Brennerin is a 1,602-metre mountain in the Höllengebirge range of Upper Austria. Its name may come from the practice of burning the limestone plateau to clear it for grazing. The summit is not heavily visited, giving it a quiet, undisturbed feel. The mountain is served by a mountain rescue hut with an open emergency space just south of the peak. Five marked routes lead up from the shores of the Attersee, each offering different challenges. The route via Schoberstein and a long ridge traverse starts from Weißenbach. Another follows the normal path to Hochleckenhaus, passing the Adlerspitzen. Two very steep climbs go up the Stieg and the Brennerriese, while the Attersee Klettersteig provides a technical option. Visitors find a rugged limestone landscape with wide views across the Alps. The open summit area has little vegetation, just patches of grass and rock. The rescue hut stands ready for emergencies and offers basic shelter. From the top, the Attersee and surrounding peaks appear in clear weather. The marked paths wind through forests and over steep slopes, rewarding walkers with varied scenery.
