Grüne Köpfe
The Grüne Köpfe is a double-peaked mountain in the Allgäu Alps of Vorarlberg. Its highest point reaches 1 725 metres above sea level, with the southern summit as the main peak and the northern one standing at 1 673 metres. The two summits sit on a narrow ridge that rises from the north-east ridge of the Diedamskopf, which itself towers at 2 090 metres. Climbing the Grüne Köpfe demands sure footing and a head for heights. The easiest route follows the east flank up from the col between the two peaks, but even this involves steep grass and scrambling rated grade III. The flanks are steep and densely covered with vegetation, making progress slow and careful. From the main summit walkers look north to the Mohrenkopf and south-east to the Hählekopf and Hoher Ifen. Below, the Subersach valley stretches out, and the hamlet of Schönenbach lies far below in the north. Bezau’s upland pastures surround the lower slopes, giving way to rocky ridges higher up.
