Pfarrkirche Hönigsberg

The Pfarrkirche Hönigsberg stands in the village of Hönigsberg within Mürzzuschlag in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district of Styria. This Roman Catholic church, dedicated to the Crucified Saviour, belongs to the Mürztal deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese. It has been listed as a protected monument since its construction. The church began as a temporary chapel in a wooden barracks in 1949, when a local priest bought a disused industrial site with an abandoned factory hall. By 1956 the decision was taken to convert the empty hall into a permanent church. It was consecrated on 23 November 1958 and became a parish church in 1962. The stained-glass windows were designed by the artist Edith Temmel. Inside, the former factory hall retains its industrial character while serving as a place of worship. Plain white walls frame the altar area, and the windows allow natural light to fill the space. The simple design contrasts with the dramatic crucifix above the altar. The surrounding village of Hönigsberg sits quietly among rolling hills, offering a peaceful setting for visitors.
