The Speidlerhaus stands in Baienfurt, a village in Ravensburg district in southern Baden-Württemberg. Built in two main phases, its core dates from about 1673, while a later extension around 1762 added a uniform second storey and roof. The 19th century brought further exterior work, yet the 1762 Baroque appearance survives largely intact. A narrow stair tower on the left side of the front gives access to the hall, lifts and toilets, marked by a lower roofline and a stone plaque naming the house. The building’s refined urban layout contrasts with its rural surroundings.
Franz Josef Speidler, a former hosiery manufacturer, gave the house its name. After thorough restoration in 1998–99 it was placed under official conservation. Today the Manufaktur Kulturverein Baienfurt e.V. runs the venue, presenting small-scale concerts, theatre, children’s shows, readings and cabaret. Its programme keeps the house alive as a cultural hub in the region.
Visitors find a two-storey structure with a simple stone front and a steep pitched roof. Inside, the ground floor preserves parts of the original 17th-century walls and timber frame above. The hall occupies the extended northern section, reached by the stair tower with its lift. Outside, the Waldseer Straße setting remains quiet, letting the historic building speak for itself.
