Freibad Tegeler See

The Strandbad Tegelsee sits on the western shore of the Tegeler See in Berlin’s Tegel district, surrounded by the Tegeler Forst pine woods. It faces the island of Lindwerder and lies between the Reiherwerder peninsula to the north and Tegelort to the south. The sandy beach was created in 1933 when the lake was enlarged, and the open-air pool has served swimmers ever since. After a four-year closure from 2016, local groups and the city’s property company restored the site and reopened it in 2021 under new community-focused management. The water meets EU bathing-water standards and has shown excellent clarity, with a July 2011 reading of 230 cm visibility. A 2017 bloom of cyanobacteria briefly forced warnings, but the lake recovered quickly. The beach stretches for about 500 metres and includes a separate FKK section. On land there are beach volleyball courts, table-tennis tables and a children’s playground. In the water, visitors find slides, a floating island and a diving tower with one-metre and three-metre boards. The reopened pool now hosts cultural events alongside swimming and sports. Cold showers, toilets and a small restaurant stand near the sand. A nearby DLRG lifeguard station offers free access to another stretch of shoreline just south of the main beach. The site is reached by bus or bicycle, with a short walk through the forest from the nearest stop.
