Edgeley Park

Edgeley Park is a football stadium in Edgeley, a district of Stockport, Greater Manchester. It stands on land donated by the Sykes family in the late 19th century for sporting use. The ground opened in 1891 for rugby league before Stockport County Football Club moved in during 1902. Sale Sharks rugby union club also played there from 2003 until 2012. The stadium once hosted England training matches when Maine Road’s pitch was frozen in 1958. It remains Stockport County’s home ground and is set for expansion to seat around 18,000 by 2025. The ground carries a century of football history and holds several notable records. In 1950, 27,833 spectators watched Stockport County draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup. The Main Stand, rebuilt in brick and steel after a 1935 fire, seats 2,020 and houses the dugouts and executive boxes. The Cheadle End, opened in 1995, is a two-tier stand holding 5,044 fans and displays the club initials in white seats. The Family Stand, once a terraced enclosure, now runs the full pitch length as an all-seater section. Visitors enter a modernised stadium with clear sightlines and modern facilities. The Danny Bergara Stand, named after a former manager, contains the changing rooms and boardroom. The Cheadle End features the Insider Suite for events, a large club shop and refreshment areas. The Family Stand, also known as the Pop Side, provides family-friendly viewing. The pitch sits just 924 metres from the River Mersey, closer than Anfield or Goodison Park. The ground’s compact layout and recent upgrades make it a practical and atmospheric place to watch non-league football.
