Dorf- und Uhrenmuseum Gütenbach

The Dorf- und Uhrenmuseum Gütenbach stands in the village of Gütenbach, a historic centre of clockmaking in the Black Forest near Furtwangen. Housed in the former schoolhouse beside the church, it occupies a hill above the village centre. The building’s position gives views over the surrounding valley and woods. The museum focuses on wooden clock movements made in the region during the 18th and 19th centuries. It displays homemade tools and jigs used by local craftsmen alongside rare clocks such as organ clocks and cuckoo clocks. Many of these pieces were produced within Gütenbach itself. A smaller section covers everyday rural life in the same period. Visitors find permanent and temporary exhibitions in several rooms of the old schoolhouse. The main hall shows the evolution of wooden clock mechanisms. Smaller displays explain how families organised their workshops at home. Outside, the hilltop site offers quiet walks with views across the Black Forest.
