Schloss Oberredwitz
Schloss Oberredwitz stood in the village of Oberredwitz, now part of Marktredwitz in Upper Franconia. The estate traces its origins to the von Redwitz family, who sold it to Waldsassen Abbey. By the late 14th century the property had passed to the Nuremberg Burgraves, who enfeoffed various noble families including the Müffling genannt Weiß and the Teuffel von Birkensee. One of the later owners was Hans Heinrich Müffling genannt Weiß, bailiff of Stockenroth and Hallerstein, who died in 1637. The site once contained two castles, an Old and a New, facing each other across the courtyard. The estate also held the right to present the priest in the adjoining church, originally dedicated to Saint Anne and later rededicated as the Church of the Holy Spirit. The complex included farm buildings and gardens laid out on gentle slopes behind the main range. Written records from the late 18th century describe the ruins of curtain walls and a gatehouse still standing among orchards and meadows. The entire ensemble was demolished in 1970. Today only the church and a few boundary walls remain, but the site is still known as the former Schloss Oberredwitz. Visitors can walk the quiet lanes where the two castles once stood and see the Heilig-Geist-Kirche with its medieval fabric and later furnishings. The surrounding fields and scattered farmsteads preserve the rural character that once framed the estate.
