BlueMax Theater

The BlueMax Theater stands on Marlene-Dietrich-Platz at Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin. It occupies a former IMAX cinema designed by Renzo Piano and opened in 1998. After extensive changes the building reopened on 1 February 2007 to host the Blue Man Group. The stage and lighting systems were rebuilt to meet the show’s needs. The Blue Man Group gave 21 years of uninterrupted performances here before their final show on 31 August 2025. The interior is arranged around a 600-seat auditorium with a preserved dome screen from the cinema era. A two-storey foyer covers 1,200 square metres and holds 100 seats. A smaller lounge called the Box Office seats 20. The stage occupies 85 square metres and the whole building covers 2,260 square metres. These spaces support the show’s multimedia and audience-involving acts. Visitors enter through the spacious foyer where they can wait before the performance. The auditorium’s dome screen is still visible above the stage. The Box Office lounge offers a quiet place to meet. The building’s location opposite another theatre puts it at the heart of Berlin’s cultural quarter.
