Internationales Keramikmuseum

The International Ceramics Museum in Weiden stands in the Upper Palatinate town of Weiden, housed since 1990 in the Waldsassener Kasten. This former grain store was built in the mid-18th century by Philipp Muttone, the Baroque master builder for Waldsassen Abbey. The building now shelters one of Germany’s leading collections of ceramics and porcelain. The museum’s collection spans roughly 1,000 square metres and shows wares from major German and European factories from the Rococo to the 20th century. Loans from the State Museum of Egyptian Art, the Bavarian National Museum and other partners join pieces from every continent and every epoch. Regular shows focus on regional themes and on contemporary ceramic art, organised by the museum and its friends’ circle. Visitors follow a clear route through the newly arranged permanent exhibition and the changing displays. After the tour, families can join children’s guides who lead them through the galleries before moving on to the museum’s pottery studio.
