Stob Coire Raineach

Stob Coire Raineach is a 925-metre Munro in the Buachaille Etive Beag massif, a ridge of two peaks in the Scottish Highlands. It stands at the north-eastern end of the ridge, overlooking Glen Coe on its eastern side. The massif runs roughly south-west from Glen Coe to Glen Etive, separated from its neighbour Buachaille Etive Mòr by the Lairig Gartain valley. A lower col called Mam Buidhe lies between Stob Coire Raineach and its higher neighbour Stob Dubh to the south-west. The ridge is formed of steep grass and rock, with a narrow crest near the summit. The peak attracts walkers because it can be reached with a shorter ascent than many nearby Munros. The usual route starts from a car park on the A82 at the head of Glen Coe. The path climbs steadily up the east side of the Lairig Eilde valley, then turns south towards Mam Buidhe. From the col a short, steep climb leads to the summit of Stob Coire Raineach. An alternative approach comes from the east via the Lairig Gartain, joining the main ridge at Mam Buidhe. From the summit there are wide views across Glen Coe and towards the higher peaks of Bidean nam Bian. The ridge itself offers narrow, airy walking along the grassy crest, with drops on either side. On clear days the view stretches to Rannoch Moor and the peaks of Glencoe’s eastern neighbours. The contrast between the dark rock of the ridge and the pale screes below adds to the scene. The summit is marked by a small cairn, with space for several walkers to stand together.
