Filialkirche hl. Paul, Sankt Urban

The Filialkirche Hoch St. Paul stands on a ridge at 1 176 metres on the north-eastern spur of the Paulberg in the parish of St Urban. First recorded in 1285, the church belongs to the mother parish of St Urban and is protected as a listed monument. Its oldest parts are Romanesque walls from the nave, while the late-Gothic choir with its three-sided apse dates from the second half of the 15th century. The tower above the choir has round-headed sound-openings and a bulbous Baroque helmet. A sacristy was added on the north side in the 17th century, and a pointed Gothic west door is sheltered by a wooden porch. Inside, the two-bay nave is covered by a barrel vault with lunettes. The tower bay is separated from nave and choir by two transverse arches and has its own cross-vault. The high altar from the late 17th century holds a small figure of Saint Paul, while the left side-altar bears the date 1671. The right side-altar features a small figure of Saint Wolfgang and an oil painting of two saints from the early 18th century.
