Pribitz

Pribitz stands in the Hochschwab range of the Austrian Alps, a sharp peak rising to 1,579 metres above sea level. It forms the northern end of the Laming valley with the Meßnerin to its east. The name comes from the old Slavic word Pribyslav, a personal name once common in the region. The mountain’s steep flanks drop down to the valley floor below Tragöß. Its summit is marked by a broad plateau that offers wide views across the surrounding countryside. The climb rewards walkers with two main routes, both starting from well-known points. One path begins at the car park of the Green Lake and follows forest tracks to Klammhöhe before crossing the high plateau of Pribitz. Passing the Pribitzalm at 1,405 metres, the route reaches the summit plateau with a clear sight of the Green Lake below. The second route leaves from Pfarreralm near Jassing and uses the Stockerwandsteig and Mehlofensteig trails to reach the same alpine meadows. From there the Sonnschienalm leads directly to the top. At the summit visitors find open grassland dotted with low shrubs and a few scattered rocks. The Green Lake glints in the distance to the south-west, its turquoise waters framed by darker forested slopes. On clear days the Meßnerin’s summit can be seen rising to the east. The Pribitzalm offers simple refreshments during the summer months, while the surrounding area remains quiet and free from crowds. The broad summit plateau gives space to sit and enjoy the wide alpine panorama before the descent.
