Seewaldsee
The Seewaldsee is a small upland lake in the municipality of Sankt Koloman, south of the Osterhorngruppe in Salzburg. It sits at 1,074 metres above sea level and covers about 5.3 hectares. The water comes from surrounding moorland seepage and rainfall, with no major surface streams feeding it. Excess water drains eastwards through the Seewaldseebach into the Marchgraben, which flows south to the Lammer. The lake reaches depths of roughly ten metres. Its ecological importance lies in the protected moor and swamp vegetation around its shores. Rare plants such as the yellow water lily, marsh horsetail, bogbean, round-leaved and oblong-leaved sundews, and rosemary heath grow here. The adjoining wet meadows are among the richest in species in Salzburg. Nearby, the Archehof farm keeps rare livestock breeds like Pustertaler Sprinzen and Blobe goats. The lake and its surroundings appeared in the 2008 Hollywood film *The Last Templar*, starring Nicolas Cage. Visitors find quiet paths through meadows and woodland that lead to the water’s edge. The air is filled with the calls of rare insects and the scent of peat and herbs. The scene offers a peaceful, unspoilt corner of the Alps where nature takes centre stage.
