Moss Farm Road Stone Circle

Moss Farm Road Stone Circle stands on the Isle of Arran in North Ayrshire, near the village of Machrie. It is a Bronze Age burial cairn surrounded by a circle of standing stones. The site lies three miles north of Blackwaterfoot on the island’s west side. About one kilometre to the east are the more famous Machrie Moor Stone Circles. This circle is also called Machrie Moor Circle 10. The circle once measured twenty-three metres across, but many stones have been taken away. A modern fence and farm track now cut through the northern edge. Seven upright stones remain in place, each about one metre tall. At least five more large stones lie on their sides around the kerb. The remains show how the cairn was built and used long ago. Visitors find a quiet grassy field with scattered stones and low earthworks. The seven standing slabs mark the edge of the old burial mound. The surrounding landscape is open moorland with distant views of hills. The site is easy to reach along farm tracks from the road. It offers a direct link to Arran’s ancient past without crowds or modern distractions.
